Walked Away Too Fast

The air was thick with phonographs and scratchy needle sounds
I was walking around my town as you were walking out
I would point it out when the lines and bars would turn around
You would make a sound like you knew what was going down

Though we walked away too fast to find us in each others’ arms in the early morn
That’s not what I mourn

The light would shine in through the shades as you were fast asleep
It would fall around your skin while lying next to me
I would see you rise up early in a subtle way
And be up and out the door like you were blown away

Though we walked away too fast to find you in a dreamer’s mind or asking you for more
That’s not what I mourn

Though I walked away too fast to find you in a lover’s mind and warm as before
That’s not what I mourn
